The Dental Filling Process
Once we’ve identified decay in your tooth, the quicker we can treat it, the easier, less costly, and minimally invasive the treatment will be.
If decay is ignored or undiagnosed, it progresses further into your tooth and causes more damage. Eventually, this could even lead to an uncomfortable tooth infection or dental emergency. If this happens, you will likely need more complex treatment to restore your tooth and dental health.
Here’s what to expect when we complete a dental filling:
- Diagnosis — Determining which tooth and where the areas of decay are.
- Anesthetic — I deliver dental anesthetic so your tooth is numb and you don’t feel anything during the procedure.
- Eliminating decay — I carefully clean the decayed areas of your tooth before applying composite resin.
- Customization—I will custom-shade the composite resin to match the shade of your tooth so that it is not noticeable after completion.
- Application — I apply the moldable filling material to your tooth and cure and harden it with a special light.
- Polishing — Finally, I shape the filling to the anatomy of your tooth, adjust it for your bite, and polish it for a beautiful, natural-looking finish.
